Lori Ada Jaroslow, Actor/Singer/Writer/Director/Educator
Ms. Jaroslow’s acting work includes on Broadway: Rizzo in Grease and Tzeitel in Fiddler On the Roof, directed by Jerome Robbins. She has performed extensively Off-Broadway, regionally, internationally and at sea. Lori toured the country with Donna McKechnie in Donna’s cabaret act as her only backup singer and dancer.
Complementing her work with adult audiences, Lori works closely with children and young people – ages 5-85! – writing original musicals and plays both for and with them and directing their productions; she has also developed several youth theater programs in Los Angeles and co-founded a musical theater summer camp for children called TheatriCamp.
Directing work includes several solo shows, and she co-produced and directed the multi award-winning CD children’s series Tell Me a Story by Amy Friedman. Lori co-produced and curated a show for writers, reading their personal narratives; Melt in Your Mouth which ran for two years at The Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood. She is also a voiceover actor and has narrated several books for Penguin Random House.
Some of her writing projects include a full-length musical, More Than All the Sky, which currently is in pre-production for a workshop of the show in New York City, and The Baby Project, for which she received an NEA grant.
Other writing projects include I Died a Week Ago Monday in New Jersey, a solo play called Sunrise Sunset about the day her father, actor, Jerry Jarrett died, and a new musical, In the Hall, written with students from Portola Middle School in Los Angeles. With composer Angela Parrish, Lori wrote the book and lyrics to a short musical based on the short story, The Lottery. She is also working on a book of personal narratives about substitute teaching in Los Angeles.
Throughout Ms Jaroslow’s career, her work with children in musical theater continues to be a vibrant and inspiring force. She is excited to work with the students at the Children’s Shelter Foundation River Farm.
